The route to Gornergrat on any good sunny day can be spotted with several walkers who coolly
traverse the path by boarding a train from Zermatt and gleefully hike their way back home.

Unfortunately, the weather in the morning wasn’t good at all....mostly cloudy and windy.
Avoiding the usual touristic path via Riffelalp and Riffelberg, I took the Grunsee route, which sloped
gently through woods of larch and pine trees eventually opening at Grunsee. From here the path
trailed steeply through Grieschumme to Kelle for about two hours leading to the summit.
Heading for the same direction….....from Kelle to Gornergrat.
The clouds were unable to shroud the imposing
Gornergletscher,  the second largest glacier (64km² area;
14.5km length) in Switzerland.
The clouds finally started disappearing on my way back to Zermatt. My hike continued further to
Edelweiss, a mountain hotel located 340m above the town.
At the crossroads........in the background from left, Castor
(4228m), Pollux (4092m) and Breithorn (4164m).
On my way to Edelweiss.....sunset over Mischabel range,
from right, Taschorn (4491m) and Dom (4545m).
A cold beer and hot broccoli soup for dinner finally put my legs to rest.
